Oh my achin’ Tabata!!!
I just spent my ‘rest day’ snowboarding… as if yesterdays Tabata wasn’t enough to tax my leg muscles. I’m a glutton for punishment what can I say.
I am still befuddled that I finish the day with tired, shakey, rubbery muscles… why is this happening when we do so many squats, lunges, 2 leg hip/thighs at bootcamp? It’s the same muscles….atleast I think it’s the same muscles. All I can figure is that I am using them differently from our workouts. As I was whining to my husband he just pointed out that our 8 & 9 year old boys aren’t sore and that that’s the benefit of youth… and yes… he got ‘the look’. He’s such a brat.
Speaking of youth, today at Bootcamp… in which I’m glad everyone was as sore as I was (misery loves company)… back on track! As we were stretching, our lovely Rachel asks if she’ll ever be able to do a split or if she’s ‘past’ being able to do a split- because you know 18 is getting up there ya know…?!
We learned that stretching is an essential part of flexibility. Some of us who have been to bootcamp for a while know this. They started bootcamp not being able to touch their toes/ankle/heck even their knee… now they are able to. We have a longer range of motion, we can ‘pull up on the band 2 more inches’. When we reach behind our back we can reach our shoulder blade and grab our elbow (or atleast on one side, but, I’m getting closer).
Stretching is just as important as the workout itself. Not to mention stretching helps with any soreness we have, that’s a BIG plus.
Think about how sore you were walking through the door this morning and then how those muscles felt as you were leaving the class – big difference, am I right? Personally it was for me… I would have laughed at you had you asked me to do a split when I walked in this morning. By the end of the class, yup, I had to try it… We’ve not only been to Bootcamp but also Tumble class… splits, backbends… you never know where our class leads us. That’s the beauty of it.
Losing our flexibilty reminds us that age is creepin’ in. I don’t plan to let it happen to me sitting down. I welcome the soreness from our workouts, it’s a reminder that my body is getting stronger. I will keep stretching to keep that flexibility for as long as possible.
I wonder if when I’m 70 if I’ll still be able to do a split?… asked me again in about 30 years but only after I’ve been to Bootcamp!
Blog you later.
