You’re old enough to know my son…

by Fran on February 5, 2010

… it’s really awfully rude, if someone speaks when both his cheeks, are jammed and crammed with food. -Martin Gardner

Ahhhhhh,Mmmmmmm,Yumyum, foooooooooooood, wonderful,tasty, mouthwatering FOOD!

The very reason we go on DIETS for, FOOD. We can’t get enough, eat to much, not the right kind, part of the never ending story.

Remember when I said embrace it, digest it, mull it over, write it down? Food on any lifestyle change is always the culprit for success or failure. It is very hard for people in general to stop eating what they love and eat what they don’t.

smileThis is when education comes into play. Learn about food, try things that you never had before. Get all those spices out of your cupboard and use them. Switch them up, if you like Italian, get all the spices that Italian’s use, put them in your veggies you don’t usually eat, Mexican, oh my goodness, I have found more ways of eating Mexican spices in veggies that you won’t believe the concoctions that I come up with, they AMAZE even me.

My new years resolution was and is to eat my full 12 cups of veggies and most days I do that, but it would not happen if I was not willing to try to eat it differently.

I am also a food label reader, I look for carbs, fiber, sugar, and proteins, ingredients are very important, no high fructose corn syrup, and no hydrogenated oil, no monoglycerides. sugars below 10 is ok, does not spike the blood sugar, more fiber the better, and less ingredients on the label the healthier your food is.

After Tuesday’s most grueling, excruciating workout that Dean the Mean bootcamp coach put us through (only bright spot was Nancy coming in and doing the warmup with us)  LOL, I came home and famished as I was, sauted onions, peppers, celery, mushrooms, lambs lettuce(at the very end), carrots, with olive oil and chipotle chile pepper, about 3 cups worth of veggies, put some mexican cheese on top and voila, I’ve a meal fit for a dogtired bootcamp survivor. move the mass, savor the flavor, hug the mug, make it happen….

Queen of Procrastination!

by Gretchen on February 4, 2010

DEAN!!! I did not need to know what was in store for me at Bootcamp today… serves me right looking at facebook instead of doing laundry and the dishes (not a tough choice)… I am the Queen of Procrastination! The boys had dentist appointments today so I was unable to get to my 9am Bootcamp. As I am trying to come up with excuses why I should not be able to get to the other classes throughout the day… I have to feed the dogs… my kitchen sink needs cleaning… I have to wash my hair…my legs still hurt from Tuesday… I know they are all lame which is why I AM going this afternoon. At least that was my plan… now that I know what is in store for me, I’m trying to re-think some other excuse.

“Get ups” – really?! isn’t it a feat in itself that I ‘get up’ out of bed each morning? and did I mention ‘getting up’ is not until the sun is fully out – people who wake up before the sun are just crazy! it’s just not normal, having to have done that twice now in the last week…eek! that’s painful! I’m a lot like Garfield I hate mornings, love my comfy blankets and lets not talk about lasagna… I only wish I had a cats nine lives, yet I do not, I have but one…

It’s what you make of that one life that’s so important. So it’s up out of bed, productivity, off to Get fit NH Bootcamp to give me energy and a stronger body, plus give me the nudge to healthy eating habits. Alas, some of the info has sunk in, enough to maintain… the Queen of Procrastination steps in and its ‘I’ll start tomorrow’… ‘ok, I’ll start tomorrow’…’how about tomorrow’ (you get the idea). So when do I finally ‘get up’ and just make the changes??!! When does ‘maintaining’ just not cut it anymore? I think when you ask yourself that question it is time to move to the next level.

Sounds like it’s going to be today at Bootcamp, because yes I AM going even knowing what is in store for me… then we’ll see what happens next. If I have it drilled in my brain enough eventually, I will make it happen…

Down with the Queen!

Celery, raw,develops the jaw…

by Fran February 1, 2010

…but celery, stewed is more quietly chewed – Ogden Nash
The above poem is about texture. One of the most difficult changes in our culinary lifestyles is the texture. Today at the most informative class that Dean and his wonderful assistant (Nancy) invited us to is about changes and how we can help ourselves to a [...]

DIET…What’s That Mean Anyway?

by Fran January 28, 2010

Diet…do I hate that word, but it is everywhere, not a magazine you pick up doesn’t have that awful word on it, so what does one do when the very word you hate is part of your everyday life, embrace it…?
Yep that is what I said, embrace it, digest it.. (like that play on words?) Food [...]
